The CARES Act continues to help stores and restaurants recover from the pandemic through various programs, some in cooperation with the U.S. Small Business Administrations (SBA).  The Small Business Development Center (SBDC) here in Madison, Wisconsin used some of the CARES Act funding to create a series of enlightening short videos on the topics of law, lending and accounting. In four minutes or less, you can increase your understanding of some very important topics.

This free video series uses actual examples from some of my business neighbors as examples, and the narrators are experts in their field.  Here are the titles of the videos now available:

  1. Profit & Loss Statements
  2. Trademarks and Copyrights
  3. Ways to Fund Your Small Business
  4. Balance Sheets
  5. LLCs and Corporations
  6. Alternative Funding Sources
  7. Cash Flow Management
  8. Choosing a Lawyer
  9. Preparing for a Meeting with a Business Lender

While you won’t get an MBA in less than a half hour, it costs nothing to increase your understanding of these topics by watching the short videos. If you find gaps in your knowledge, contact your local SBDC to see if there are classes or advisors to help you learn more about the legal and financial responsibilities that are part of running a small business. There may well be one near you, because the SBDC network is made up of nearly 1,000 government-funded centers across the country to provide consulting, training and other services.
